Keeping bugs out of the boardroom

Consultant warns about snooping devices

Manx companies must ensure there are no 'bugs in the boardroom', or risk losing confidential information - so says a cyber security expert.

Ian Henderson, who gave a sold out presentation this week on the perils of covert monitoring techniques, says many organisations overlook the real threat of spying in their offices.

Criminals have been known to use sophisticated equipment to gain access to insider knowledge, which is then sold on for profit.

The most high profile case of bugging on the Island involved the Isle of Man Constabulary, when a listening device was used to monitor conversations between lawyers and clients.

Mr Henderson, a consultant for Douglas investigation firm Expol, told Manx Radio the high-level technology required to commit this crime is now readily available online.
